🍸 Bar Jan Mayen – an old schooner, a new chapter in her history
Jan Mayen, a three-masted schooner built in 1914, turns 111 this year. Quite a lot has happened along the way – smuggling during Prohibition, coastguard patrols, fishing in the Arctic Ocean, life as a houseboat, restaurant experiences and even being home to Finland’s best cocktail bar.
Now it is time for a new chapter once again.
The bar and restaurant are once again run by the ship’s owners, together with the rest of the crew.
Bar Jan Mayen is a relaxed yet atmospheric place by the sea, serving quality wines, beers, cocktails and other carefully selected drinks, along with small tapas-style bites.
At the stern, you’ll also find a wood-heated IKI sauna – a public sauna in the historic captain’s cabin.

Owned and maintained by the Finnish Maritime Heritage Sailing Ship Association, the schooner welcomes guests as a unique venue for hire in the centre of Helsinki, at Halkolaituri.

HISTORY
Jan Mayen is a three-masted Marstal schooner, a type once common in the Baltic Sea and North Sea. Today, Jan Mayen is the only one of her kind in Finland.
